5 Checks Before Your Argument
1

The Claim

"What am I actually claiming, in one sentence, out loud?"

Quick test: If nobody would disagree with it, it's not a claim. If it takes more than one sentence, it's not ready.
2

The Room

"Who am I claiming it to, and what do they already believe?"

Quick test: Can you name every person who matters to this decision, and say what they already think?
3

The Evidence

"What is my single strongest piece of evidence?"

Quick test: If you can only show them one thing, what is it? Does it hold up when someone leans on it?
4

The Cost of Yes

"What am I actually asking this room to give up, do, or risk?"

Quick test: Can you list what yes costs them in time, money, risk, and reputation? If not, you don't know what you're asking for.
5

The Steelman

"What is the strongest version of the objection to my claim?"

Quick test: Would you be comfortable if the smartest sceptic in the room read your answer to this? If not, go again.
Before You Walk In
Say out loud: The strongest objection to my argument is _______________. I agree that _______________. My answer is _______________, because _______________.
